The International Society for Quality of Life Research (ISOQOL) is a global community of researchers, clinicians, health care professionals, industry professionals, consultants, and patient research partners advancing health related quality of life research (HRQL). This year’s conference theme was Artificial Intelligence & the Future of Quality of Life Research. The PROVE Center presented their work in quality of life (QOL) research and learned about contributions of other community members.

We’re excited to welcome Kelly M. Kenzik, PhD, as the new Associate Director of the PROVE Center. As an Epidemiologist in the Department of Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dr. Kenzik brings deep expertise in patient-reported outcomes, advanced analytic methods, and integrated data approaches to support value-based, patient-centered care. Dr. Zeng gave a presentation at the Massachusetts General Hospital Genetics Conference titled “Patient-Reported Outcome Measures in Clinical Research: Application, Development, and Validation.” He shared his knowledge and experience with audiences that included geneticists, neurologists, fellows, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, residents, genetic counselors, and medical students.

Dr. Chengbo Zeng delivered an oral presentation titled “Do Residential Segregation and Multimorbidity Exacerbate Racial Disparities in Acute Care Utilization among Patients Served by A Large Healthcare System?” at the 6th National Big Data Health Science Conference in Columbia, South Carolina on Feb 13, 2025. The National Big Data Health Science Conference is a major event that brings together data scientists, public health researchers, and stakeholders. It provides a platform for presenting cutting-edge data science research in healthcare and is open to researchers at all levels. 

PROVE Goes to Cologne, Germany

Sophia Hu won the Best Research Fellow Award at the Harvard Plastics Research Day presenting her talk titled “Completion of the GENDER-Q Field Test: Results in an International Sample of 5,496 Transgender and Gender Diverse Adults”

PROVE Center student, Tai Miller, had two oral presentations at the 19th Annual Academic Surgical Conference in Washington, DC.

The team conducted their first site visit for the R01 this past month! This took place at Boston Medical Center and was a success – we learned a lot and got to know their team well. We are looking forward to taking next steps with them as well as visiting our 4 other sites for the project.

We received our R01 award notice from the NIH with the project start date moved up to this month! We are eager and ready to kick this project off and look forward to collaborating with everyone on this work.

Our team, led by Dr. Maria Edelen, has finalized the new 16-item PROMIS profile and are writing up results now for publications and conference presentations. 

Dr. Jason Liu was awarded the BWH Department of Surgery Beal Award to support the measurement of PROs in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism.
