We Are: Gezzer Ortega, MD, MPH

A Brooklyn native, born to immigrant parents from the Dominican Republic, Dr. Ortega is the Lead Faculty for Research and Innovation for Equitable Surgical Care at the Center for Surgery and Public Health, and Adjunct Faculty at the Patient-Reported Outcomes, Value & Experience (PROVE) Center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Ortega is a health services researcher with a focus on developing and implementing solutions to eliminate surgical inequities. At the PROVE Center, Dr. Ortega works on improving access to and outcomes of surgical care for patients with limited English proficiency and projects at the intersection of social determinants of health and patient-reported outcomes. Dr. Ortega also enjoys skiing, hiking, and sporting events.
